(First of all, I know this photo is not from the proper scene of the movie, but it's the closest one I can find). So, I know I am not in a position to "Dis" or "Give Props" or whatever the F*&$ my F$%^ing MTV sense of decorum tells me to do, but I want to give a really big and heartfelt tribute to Andrew Dunleavy. Andrew was my "little brother" in my fraternity in college. Generally I have found the bonds of fraternity life have worn pretty thin in post-college life, but I have stayed close with Andrew and if nothing else that should be a testament to the guy.
One unfortunate thing that Andrew and I have in common is that we both lost our dads to cancer during college, coincidentally both during our respective sophmore years. If for no other reason- I have respect for Andrew in finishing up school this spring, something I know his dad would be proud of him for, and as someone who has gone through the same experience of finishing up college after the death of a parent- he has my respect as well.
Getting to the point- I hadn't heard from Andrew for a while, when he IMed me tonight to let me know he had not spoken to me in a while because he had been busy organizing a memorial 5k Run in Lancaster, PA, the town where our college is located, to raise money for colon cancer.
I just wanted to take the opportunity to say how much respect I have for Andrew and how proud I am of him for doing this- for more reasons than I'd like to ramble on with here. Though I obviously am not going to be in Lancaster tommorrow or anything, I encourage everyone who reads this who knows Andrew to send him an emai saying good work-- or if you are in the Lancaster area now or in years to come- show your support by running this race as I think they are aiming to make it an annual event and it's a very good cause.
