Wild Colonial: Matt describes this place as "cave-like," which I agree with. The wild colonial is a strange mix of irish bar/New England patriot/RISD-Brown freak scene and personally I like it. The wild colonial is probably one of the most laid back places in Providence, but you can still have a great time here. There is always a really wide variety of people there and strange stuff seems to occur in this place- e.g.- near last Christmas Matt, Maria, and I were there when there were two people wearing Santa Claus costumes having sex in the men's room. Good times.
Pastiche: Although this is not a bar per se, I originally said this feature would apply to restaurants etc as well. Pastiche is a coffee/desert place recommended to me by the illustrious Derek and his woman Michaela- and it turned out to be a good recommendation. This cafe located in the historic Federal Hill section of Providence reminds me of the kind of Cafes that you find in Europe where one can leisurely enjoy a wide variety of different gourmet coffees and cakes in a laid back and no-take-out atmosphere.
